Case Study: The Dancers of Damelahamid’s Coastal First Nations Dance Festival
From March 8-11, 2012 the Dancers of Damelahamid presented the Coastal First Nations Dance Festival at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC.?The annual event gathered a diverse array of Aboriginal performance groups from throughout BC, the Yukon, Alaska, and abroad to share a multitude of Indigenous cultures and dance traditions through school workshops, evening galas, and public afternoon performances.
Laura Murray Public Relations were hired to provide a far-reaching media relations campaign that would achieve high levels of public awareness for the festival.
The campaign strategy involved securing advance interviews for the artists in high-profile media outlets and featured event promotion in a wide variety of print, radio, and online calendars, special sections, and event listings.
Interviews and articles were secured with publications and outlets throughout the Lower Mainland.? Coverage highlights included: the Vancouver Sun, Province, CTV Evening News, CBC Radio-Canada, Shaw Express, Xinhua, Vancouver Courier, Georgia Straight, Surrey Now, Burnaby Now, North Shore News, Westender, VancouverMom.ca, Inside Vancouver, Aboriginal Tourism BC, and CITR Radio.
The Coastal First Nations successfully sold-out both of its ticketed evening galas at the Museum of Anthropology.
