VIFF Opens in Vancouver

The Vancouver International Film Festival opened this Thursday and runs until October 10. The annual event has become a major attraction for film buffs, which has grown into one of the five largest film festivals in North America since its launch in 1982.

Bard On The Beach Sets Record Attendance

Vancouver’s Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival announced that it set an all time attendance record this season. The festival managed to draw in nearly 101,000 patrons as they celebrated their 25th anniversary.

Tanya Tagaq Wins Polaris

Tanya Tagaq took home the?Polaris Music Prize?this week for her latest album, Animism. Tagaq takes home a $30,000 cash prize and the claim to the album of the highest artistic merit with no relation to sales.

 

National Gallery of Canada Names New Curator

The National Gallery of Canada announced Katerina Atanassova as their new curator of Canadian art this week. Atanassova, the current chief curator of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, succeeds Charles Hill, who has held the position since 1980.

 

Paul Taylor’s American Modern Dance Releases Season Details

Paul Taylor’s American Modern Dance company announced their season details this week, which includes both old and new works and will take place from March 11 to 29 at New York’s Lincoln Center. The company has been making waves in the dance community since it announced that it would dedicate $10 million to reinvent itself from the Paul Taylor Dance Company to Paul Taylor’s American Modern Dance earlier this year.
